Experimental and practical researches on inflammation and on the origin and nature of tubercles of the lungs.London: John Churchill, 1843.
Addison made important observations on the blood corpuscles. He is by some considered “the world’s first hematologist”. He gave the first description of leucocytosis, so named by Virchow in 1858, and he anticipated Cohnheim’s conception of inflammation. He was first to observe diapedesis. See Lancet, 1907, 1,182-83.
