Order of authorship in the original publication: Johnson, Schiffman, Davis, Pritt. The authors, found some commonality in this pathogen, originally designated generally as "Wisconsin and Minnesota, 2009" with the mouse strain, and identified the vector of what appeared to be a new species as the Ixodes scapularis tick.
